Hang Lung partnered with GreenBird to deploy smart waste scales across three flagship properties, using data-driven measurement to support its ESG and circular economy goals. The project demonstrates how different scale types can serve mall operations, office tenants, and expansion into mainland China within one unified ESG platform.
About the Customer
Hang Lung is a leading property developer and owner with a strong sustainability strategy and more than 80% of its construction floor area certified under green building schemes. The Group has received numerous ESG awards in Hong Kong and mainland China for embedding sustainability into building operations.
Project Objectives
- Build a smart waste management system that captures accurate weight data at source and supports Hang Lung’s ESG reporting and KPI setting.
- Engage tenants and office users with easy-to-use weighing solutions that fit into daily operations while encouraging better recycling performance.
- Support Hang Lung’s portfolio growth on the mainland by standardizing waste data collection across borders, starting from Plaza 66 in Shanghai.
Deployed Solutions
Hang Lung – Standard Chartered Bank Building
At Hang Lung’s Standard Chartered Bank Building in Central, GreenBird deployed one smart bin scale together with Wi‑Fi-enabled scales to capture accurate waste and recycling data at the building’s back-of-house area. This setup allows the property team to automatically record every disposal event, improving data quality for ESG reporting and internal sustainability KPIs.
Hang Lung – GALA Place (Office usage)
At GALA Place, GreenBird installed Wi‑Fi smart scales dedicated to office tenants, enabling them to measure daily waste and recyclables at the source. The digital records support tenant engagement programmes, making it easier for office users to track performance against corporate ESG targets.
Hang Lung – Plaza 66, Shanghai (Mainland entry)
For Plaza 66 in Shanghai, GreenBird provided two trolley-type smart scales to handle higher waste volumes and more complex logistics. This deployment serves as a beachhead for Hang Lung’s expansion of GreenBird’s smart waste solution in mainland China, creating a unified data standard across its cross-border portfolio.
